Tell us about what you do now. Has your time at the School influenced your life today?

I am a Policy and Communications Consultant, and a Foreign Affairs Columnist.

Tell us about your time at BMS. Do you have any special memories you would like to share?

I have fond memories of BMS, and some of my closest friends are from the School. A lot of my happiest moments came from the Boat Club. Becoming Captain of Boats aged 16 gave me a life-changing increase in confidence, having been very shy before, and winning a national gold medal and having a boat named after me remains one of my proudest moments.

Who was someone from your time at BMS who had an impact on you and why?

Ms Chumbley for being such a warm and kind tutor. I saw her recently actually after many years and it was lovely (she hasn't changed at all!) and Mr Follett and Mr Ali Brown, the then Directors of Rowing for getting me into the sport and giving me leadership opportunities.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy writing, reading and I still do some (indoor) rowing and running.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Be more open minded, be more confident and enjoy the moment!

Are there any other thoughts you would like to share with the OBM and BMS community? (looking for something inspirational here)

As I get older, I realise how special BMS is. That period of time in life really gave me a strong sense of focus. I miss that. Nowadays it's so easy to get distracted, with a thousand long to do list, but strive to go back to the simplicity of the past (the clarity of thought of having to win a rowing race or pass an exam). It's not easy to do that post-school, but keeping life simple and instilling a sense of discipline and focus in the way we did when we are young, has helped me move forward.
