OBM Lara Brittain (2011-19) represented Great Britain in the World Rowing Coastal Championships in Genoa, Italy from 06 September to 08 September. She raced in the Mixed Double with Jerry Owen, finishing 11th in a field of over 50 boats. Lara also recently won the British Championships in the Championship Lightweight Single.

Lara writes: ‘We raced in the Coastal Mixed Double Sculls and came 11th overall, making it to the A final by coming 5th in heat one the same morning. 18 boats made it into the A final, to battle it out among the best crews in the world for a chance to win a medal. Quite a few Paris Olympians and Tokyo Olympians were also racing, so a very exciting field to be racing against!

In preparation for the World Championships we also raced in Bantry, Ireland two weeks before, beating the current world champions and European bronze medalists to come away as Irish champions in the Coastal Mixed Double Scull.

I’ve had a great season, coming 2nd in the Championship Lightweight Single at BUCS and winning the British Championships in the Championship Lightweight Single, alongside making the final of Henley Women’s Regatta in the Championship Lightweight Double. I have aspirations to trial for the GB coastal squad next season and continue my training in Nottingham whilst I study for my PhD at Loughborough.

At BMS I was captain of boats for the 2019 rowing season and raced in the A quad throughout my time rowing. It was a great squad to be part of and gave me a great foundation to build upon before heading off to Reading University to study and continue rowing. I still wear my BMS kit to train in!’
