On Friday 14 October, OBMs Dominic Boon (1985 - 1994), Adam Boon (1985 - 1992) and Luke Perry (1984 - 1995) completed a swim stretching across 21 miles of open water from Smuggler’s Cave in St. Lucia to Martinique, each swimming continuously for one hour, taking a two hour break and repeating. It took the trio a total of 15 hours and 29 minutes to complete the swim, making them the first ever UK swimmers to complete it and the first ever relay team to take on the course. They ended their swim by signing their names upon the St. Lucia Yacht Club wall, under ‘BMS Relay’. During their time at Bedford Modern School, brothers, Dominic and Adam Boon, met Luke Perry at the School, and were a part of the School’s water polo team, from this they have stayed life-long friends and continued on their passion for swimming.

The motivation for undertaking this particular challenge was to put their physical and mental resilience to the test, whilst simultaneously raising money for a charitable cause close to their hearts. Since planning for their swim, they have proudly raised nearly $9000 for the Wireless and Cable Charitable Foundation, with a lot of support and generosity from the wider OBM community. Dominic Boon is a founding member of the charity, where their core aim is to provide relief to Latin American and Caribbean communities following natural disasters such as flooding, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions and the coronavirus pandemic. The charity helps fight digital exclusion experienced in the Caribbean by providing connectivity and devices to local schools.
