On the evening of 13 July 2023, Hannah Tyers (2013-18) attended the prestigious Construction News Awards having been nominated for the Rising Star category due to her impressive career achievements in her role as Assistant Surveyor at Walter Lilly, and her ambition to help others. The awards showcase and celebrate the very best talent in the construction industry and this year’s ceremony was hosted by Claudia Winkleman and held in the glitzy ballroom of the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair.

Hannah received a ‘high commendation’ for her exceptional work to address alcoholism in the construction industry. This is a fantastic achievement and highlights the hard work and dedication that Hannah has demonstrated. Addressing alcoholism is a cause that is close to Hannah’s heart following the devastating loss of her mother in December 2021 and she has used her free time to volunteer for NACOA, a charity dedicated to supporting those affected by a parent’s drinking. Hannah understood the importance of getting the message into workplaces - including construction sites, so that people know where to turn when they or someone they love is struggling.

It is fantastic to see Hannah raising awareness of something that could affect so many people. Here are Bedford Modern School we are extremely proud of everything she has achieved. Well done Hannah!
